“Gay Cure” Director Alan Chambers Arrested in Undercover Child Sex Sting Former Exodus International President Accused of Soliciting 14-Year-Old Boy Online

Winter Park, Florida – Alan Manning Chambers, 54, the former president of Exodus International and a onetime leading voice in the “ex-gay” movement, was arrested Tuesday in a child predator sting by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Chambers was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of solicitation of a minor via computer, transmission of material harmful to minors, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. He is being held without bond.

According to the arrest affidavit, an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old boy living in Orlando began communicating with Chambers on Snapchat in February 2026. The conversation later moved to Telegram. Chambers allegedly identified himself as a 50-year-old man named “John David,” sent sexually explicit messages and images (including of his private body parts), and discussed plans to meet for sexual activity near his office on Park Avenue in Winter Park.

Investigators noted that Chambers repeatedly expressed concern about getting caught, occasionally deleted chat history, and took steps to obscure his identity. During a traffic stop near Aloma Avenue and Strathy Lane on Tuesday morning, he confirmed the Snapchat and Telegram accounts belonged to him and admitted communicating with someone he believed was a 14-year-old boy, but declined to provide further details.

AT&T records and other evidence linked the accounts to Chambers, who told investigators he works at John Craig Clothiers in Winter Park and lives with his wife and two children.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office officials stated they “stopped a predator before he had the chance to harm a child” and are actively investigating whether there are additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact the non-emergency line at 407-836-4357.

Background on Chambers and Exodus International

Chambers led Exodus International, once the largest Christian “ex-gay” organization in the world, which promoted conversion therapy practices aimed at changing sexual orientation. The Orlando-based group shuttered in 2013 amid growing criticism from medical and psychological organizations that labeled such therapies ineffective and harmful.

In a landmark 2013 apology at the group’s final conference, Chambers publicly renounced the organization’s mission, stating he no longer believed sexual orientation could be changed and expressing regret for the harm caused to the LGBTQ community. He later wrote the book My Exodus: From Fear to Grace and distanced himself from the movement.

More recently, Chambers maintained a relatively low public profile while serving as vice president of operations at a clothing store and as president of the Park Avenue District business group in Winter Park, where he was involved in local community and fashion events.

The arrest has drawn widespread attention due to the stark contrast between Chambers’ past advocacy and the nature of the allegations.

SNN.BZ will continue to follow developments in this case as it proceeds through the court system.
