Tragic Shooting at Annunciation Catholic School:
Minneapolis, Minnesota – August 28, 2025 – In a devastating act of violence that has outraged the nation, 23-year-old Robin Westman a transgender man carried out a mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School on August 27, killing two young children and injuring 17 others during a morning Mass.
The attack, which unfolded just days into the new school year, has been condemned as a deliberate assault on innocent worshippers, with federal authorities investigating it as potential domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics.

Westman, who took his own life at the scene, left behind a disturbing digital trail that exposes a troubled man consumed by mental instability, political grudges, and a fixation on mass violence. Mostly importantly, a section of his manifesto that media is not mentioning is that he regretted transitioning into a transgender person.
The shooting erupted around 8:30 a.m. at the Annunciation Catholic Church, adjacent to the pre-K through 8th-grade school in south Minneapolis. Dozens of students, dressed in their green uniforms, were gathered for an all-school Mass celebrating the first full week of classes, which began on Monday.
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, Westman approached the side of the building on foot, armed with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol—all legally purchased recently. Firing dozens of rounds through the stained-glass windows, he targeted children and parishioners seated in the pews, turning a sacred service into a scene of chaos.
Two victims—an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old—were killed instantly, pronounced dead at the scene. The 17 injured included 14 children aged 6 to 15 and three elderly parishioners in their 80s. While two children remain in critical condition, all survivors are expected to recover, thanks to the quick actions of school staff who sheltered students under pews and evacuated them within minutes.
Jen Psaki publicly crying from backlash to her posted words

Eyewitness accounts from survivors, like 10-year-old fifth-grader Weston Halsne, capture the horror: “The shots were right next to me… My friend got hit in the back trying to protect me.”
Another student recalled hiding and praying as gunfire echoed for up to four minutes.Westman barricaded several church doors with wooden planks from the outside, trapping those inside, and deployed a smoke bomb to sow further panic. After the barrage, he retreated to the parking lot and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
No other suspects are involved, and police recovered additional firearms from three residences linked to Westman in the Twin Cities area. This marked the fourth shooting in Minneapolis within 24 hours, highlighting the city’s ongoing battle with unchecked gun violence.
Born Robert Paul Westman on June 17, 2002, in Richfield, Minnesota—a suburb of Minneapolis—Robin Westman grew up in what appeared to be a typical family but showed early signs of deep personal turmoil.
He attended Annunciation Catholic School as a child, graduating around 2017, according to yearbook records and law enforcement sources. This personal connection to the site adds a chilling layer of intent; Westman had visited the school the week prior, during teacher preparations for the new year.
Westman’s mother, Mary Grace Westman, worked as a parish secretary and administrative assistant at the church and school for five years, retiring in 2021.
Church bulletins from 2016 announced her hiring, and a 2021 social media post celebrated her retirement. This familial tie has left the community stunned, raising questions about how a man so connected could turn against the institution.
The Manifesto:
Reconstructed Excerpts from the Four-Page Handwritten Letter (Addressed to Family and Friends) This is the primary “manifesto” text, starting on the first page and continuing across the document. It begins with an apology and evolves into expressions of depression, world-hatred, and advice to move on.
- Opening Apology (Page 1):
“I don’t expect forgiveness … I do apologize for the effects my actions will have on your lives. I know this is wrong but I can’t seem to stop myself.” - Blame on the World and Self-Description (Pages 1-2):
“I was corrupted by this world and have learned to hate what life is. Life is love, life is pain. I am tired of the pain this world gives out. […] I have wanted this for so long. I am not well. I am not right. I am a sad person, haunted by these thoughts that do not go away. […] I am severely depressed and have been suicidal for years. Only recently have I lost all hope and decided to perform my final action against this world. I don’t want to kneel down for the injustices of this world.” - To Parents (Page 2):
“Please do not think you have failed as parents. [You raised me to be a good person and taught me empathy, self-sacrifice and good character,] but I was corrupted by this world and have learned to hate what life is. […] Please move on and continue to give your love to brothers and sisters, and the rest of the world. They may not forgive you, but you need to move on from me. Forget my life and the pain I have brought.” (Note: The bracketed portion on upbringing is inferred from context in reports but not directly quoted; sources emphasize appreciation mixed with external blame.) - To Siblings (Page 3):
“I apologize to [my] siblings for forever tainting the rest of your lives. Your careers, lives, relationships, all will be turned upside-down. Please hold on to who you are, not who I am. Change your names if you must.” - To Friends (Page 3-4):
“[To friends,] trust to give your memory of me however you see fit… Unfortunately, this world has too much pain to deal out that I can’t cover up with the good sides of life.” - Closing and Suicidal/Health References (Page 4):
The manifesto concludes by asking for prayers for the victims and their families. Additional passages include self-diagnosis of terminal illness: “I think I am dying of cancer. It’s a tragic end as it’s entirely self-inflicted. I did this to myself as I cannot control myself and have been destroying my body through vaping and other means. I think I have lung cancer. I have felt many pains that make me think I am past the point of recovery. I do not want to recover. I do not want to throw my life away by rotting in a hospital bed. I don’t want the rest of my life to be as a cancer patient, in and out of hospitals, constantly being fretted about with people afraid to be too happy around me.
Other Disturbing Elements in the Manifesto/Notebook (Not Part of the Core Letter)The document also contained non-letter content, such as journal-style entries glorifying violence, which were flipped through in the video. These are not a traditional “manifesto” narrative but reveal motives:
- Obsession with mass shootings: “Sandy Hook was my first exposure to school shootings… I like shooters who know what they are doing and plan for violence and mass death. All these events and stories have only fueled a fire in me to do it right. […] Sandy Hook was my favorite, I think. It fascinated me. I love when kids get shot, I love to see them torn apart. […] I love the awful slaughter of innocents.”
- Hateful and extremist rants (in English and Russian): Phrases like “hatred, kill yourself, I’m a terrorist,” “Jew gas,” calls for Israel to “fall” and “burn,” references to the Holocaust, racial slurs, anti-Christian messages (e.g., “Where is your God?”), and “If I carry out a racially motivated attack, it would most likely be against filthy Zionist Jews… FREE PALESTINE!” Also, “I wanted one final act. A target of political or societal significance.”
- Planning details: A hand-drawn map of the church interior and gun diagrams (e.g., “Ruger Mark IV”). The video shows Westman stabbing the map with a knife while giggling and muttering “I wanna kill myself.”
Additional Context from the Videos
- The videos (totaling around 20-30 minutes across multiple uploads) also displayed an arsenal of guns, ammunition, and a shooting target with Jesus’s face. Magazines were inscribed with names of mass killers (e.g., Adam Lanza, Dylann Roof, Robert Bowers, Natalie Rupnow, Brenton Tarrant, Ted Kaczynski) and phrases like “for the children,” “kill Donald Trump,” and white supremacist symbols (e.g., flashing a sign, anti-religious odes).
- Westman showed a trans pride flag with an AK-47 overlay and mixed ideologies (e.g., pro-trans, pro-communist, anti-fascist language alongside far-right violence references).
- Audio: Maniacal giggling, coughing, and mutterings while displaying items; one video claimed support for pro-gun YouTuber Brandon Herrera (who condemned the attack).
