The London Police today released the identity of the second man arrested on suspicion of misconduct while in public office — the same allegation for which Andrew Mountbatten was arrested last Thursday. The individual is Peter Mandelson, the British Ambassador to the United States and a former Labour government minister.

The core accusation against both men is that, while holding official public positions, they are suspected of sharing or sharing “classified” confidential British government information with the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

For Andrew Mountbatten, the suspicion relates to his time as UK trade envoy from 2001 to 2011. It is alleged he forwarded confidential trade reports and other government documents to Epstein around 2010.

For Peter Mandelson, the suspicion concerns his dealings with Epstein while serving as a government minister and later as ambassador. Reports indicate he passed sensitive British government intelligence or confidential material.

Mandelson, aged 72, was arrested on Monday 23 February 2026 at his home in Camden, north London. He was taken into custody for questioning and has since been released under investigation pending further inquiries. No charges have been filed at this stage.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
