The Scandal That Just Won’t Die
Queen Camilla’s journey to the throne is steeped in one of the most infamous scandals in royal history: her role in the collapse of King Charles III’s marriage to Princess Diana.
As the “other woman,” Camilla Parker Bowles became a lightning rod for public outrage in the 1990s, a stigma that lingers still today. The Camilla-Diana scandal, marked by betrayal and heartbreak, continues to shape how the world views the Queen Consort.
The expression is still commonly whispered “from Cunt to Queen.” Not a nice expression but very common in British high-gentry circles.
The affair between Camilla and Charles, which began in the 1970s, exploded into public view with the 1992 “Camillagate” tapes. These leaked phone calls revealed intimate exchanges, including Charles’s now-infamous tampon remark, shocking the world and cementing Camilla’s image as a homewrecker.
Posts on X in April 2025 still reflect the enduring resentment, with users like @sarahfugard slamming Camilla for treating Diana “horribly” during the couple’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
Another user, @Shannon79053723, alleges a “weird, incestuous foursome” involving Camilla, Charles, her ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles, and Princess Anne, hinting at a web of infidelity that still fuels gossip.
Perhaps most stinging is a recent X post by @kelly_lo3, claiming Camilla issued a belated “apology” for her role in Diana’s distress while denying responsibility—a move called “batshit disrespectful.”

Though unverified, these sentiments underscore the public’s reluctance to forgive. The Camilla-Diana scandal remains a raw wound for many, with Diana’s tragic 1997 death amplifying the narrative of Camilla as the villain.
