Shane Devon Tamura initiated a one man shooting event that at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. He left Five Dead, Including one NYPD Officer

New York City, July 28, 2025, 11:27 PM EDT – A mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan has left five people dead — including a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer and four civilians — and at least six others injured, according to law enforcement officials. The suspect, identified as Shane Devon Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor of the 44-story commercial tower that houses prominent tenants including Blackstone, the NFL, KPMG, and Rudin Management.

The violence erupted at approximately 6:30 PM EDT when Tamura, armed with a .223-caliber Palmetto State Armory AR-15-style rifle and wearing a ballistic vest, opened fire in the building’s lobby before moving upward through multiple floors. Authorities say the NYPD officer, working private security for Rudin Properties, was shot in the back and later died in surgery. Four civilians were also killed, and at least six more individuals sustained injuries, one of whom remains in critical condition.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the situation has been “contained” and the “lone shooter has been neutralized.” A vehicle registered to Tamura with Nevada license plates was recovered outside the building and contained an empty rifle case and tactical gear.

Tamura had held a Nevada concealed carry permit issued in 2022 and an expired private investigator license. He did not have a notable criminal history, but preliminary sources indicate that Blackstone may have been the intended target. Investigators are combing through his digital footprint, including a now-deactivated social media profile that allegedly contained posts about corporate corruption and government surveillance.

A dramatic law enforcement response included NYPD, FBI, and FDNY units, with video footage showing heavily armed officers conducting floor-to-floor sweeps, evacuating workers, and administering first aid. Many employees barricaded themselves in offices during the chaos.

Mayor Eric Adams, speaking near the scene, urged residents to avoid the vicinity of East 52nd Street between Park and Lexington Avenues as the investigation continues. Governor Kathy Hochul has also been briefed and echoed the call for public caution.

Authorities also detained two individuals — a man and a woman — reportedly shouting “Free Palestine” near the scene. Their connection to the shooting remains under investigation, and initial indications suggest they may be unrelated to Tamura’s actions.

As a precaution, the NYPD bomb squad is conducting a systematic search of the building. The area remains on lockdown, causing widespread traffic disruptions and subway delays across Midtown.
