Jamie Lee Komoroski got a 25 year Prison Sentence

Jamie Lee Komoroski, a New Jersey native and Coastal Carolina University graduate, is currently incarcerated in the South Carolina Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to charges related to a fatal crash on Folly Beach.

We would have published this article sooner but the attorneys on all sides were trying to force press to simply drop the story. On the evening of April 28, 2023, Komoroski was driving a rental vehicle on East Ashley Avenue when she struck a golf cart carrying four people.
Among the occupants were Samantha Miller and her husband, Aric Hutchinson, who had been married earlier that same day. Miller, still wearing her wedding attire, was killed. Hutchinson and the two other passengers sustained serious injuries.
Investigators determined that Komoroski’s blood-alcohol concentration measured 0.26 percent—more than three times the legal limit—and that her vehicle was traveling at approximately 65 mph in a 25 mph zone.
On December 2, 2024, Komoroski entered a guilty plea before Circuit Court Judge Deadra Jefferson to one count of felony driving under the influence resulting in death, two counts of felony DUI causing great bodily injury, and one count of reckless homicide. She received a 25-year sentence on the death-related charge, with concurrent terms of 15 years and 10 years on the remaining counts.
Her attorneys later sought reconsideration of the sentence, arguing it was disproportionate compared with outcomes in similar cases. Prosecutors opposed any reduction, citing the wishes of the victim’s family. The request was denied in 2025.
Komoroski is serving her sentence in the South Carolina prison system. Correctional records list her under SCDC identification number 00395895, with a projected release date in 2045. The facility housing female inmates in the state system includes high-security units and also holds South Carolina’s female death-row population. Inmates are subject to regular counts, assigned work details, and structured daily schedules with limited personal autonomy.
Civil claims arising from the crash produced settlements involving bars, the vehicle insurer, and other parties. A final settlement with Komoroski’s auto insurer was reached in December 2025.
The case continues to draw public attention because of the timing of the crash on the victims’ wedding day, the high blood-alcohol reading, the speed involved, and the length of the prison term imposed.
