A widening criminal investigation in North Texas is drawing national attention after a former police chief, multiple former officers, and even the chief’s mother were swept into an alleged prostitution and racketeering scandal that investigators say may have operated for years inside the small community of Godley, Texas.

At the center of the controversy is Ashley Ketcherside — also known online by the alias “Lola Brea” — whose name first surfaced publicly in 2023 after reports revealed she had previously been convicted on prostitution-related charges while simultaneously serving on committees tied to Godley ISD, including panels connected to sex education oversight and school volunteer activities.
The situation exploded into a much larger scandal in 2026 when investigators announced arrests connected to what authorities described as an organized prostitution conspiracy involving former members of the Godley Police Department.

Former Police Chief Arrested
Former Godley Police Chief Matthew Cantrell now faces multiple charges tied to the investigation, including allegations involving promotion of prostitution, organized criminal activity, and additional sexual assault accusations that surfaced during the probe. Prosecutors allege Cantrell abused his position of authority over a period of years. Cantrell has not been convicted of the allegations and remains entitled to the presumption of innocence.
The investigation has reportedly widened beyond isolated misconduct and into what authorities describe as a network involving police insiders, alleged protection arrangements, and organized criminal behavior.

Chief’s Mother Also Arrested
In one of the investigation’s most stunning developments, Cantrell’s mother, Regina Cantrell, was arrested after investigators alleged she improperly accessed law enforcement systems to check whether warrants had been issued against her son and his associates. Authorities say she was employed at the Johnson County Jail at the time.
According to FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, investigators believe she may have warned family members about active warrants before raids and arrests occurred. Regina Cantrell has also not been convicted and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
“Lola Brea” and the School District Controversy
Years before the arrests tied to the broader racketeering case, Ketcherside had already become the subject of controversy after parents reportedly discovered online escort profiles connected to the alias “Lola Brea.”
The Godley Independent School District later removed her from volunteer and advisory positions after media investigations uncovered prior prostitution convictions from 2012 and 2016.
Multiple reports emphasized an important legal distinction in Texas: escort services themselves can operate legally when selling companionship or time, but exchanging money specifically for sexual acts constitutes prostitution under Texas law.
Still, critics questioned how someone with prior convictions allegedly passed through school volunteer screening systems and became involved in committees connected to student health and sexuality education.
Allegations of a Larger Network
Investigators now allege the operation may have extended far beyond one family or one escort profile. Court filings cited by local media describe accusations that the Ketchersides operated a prostitution scheme from their residence for years and that various members of local law enforcement were connected to the environment surrounding the alleged operation.
The scandal has sparked outrage across Texas social media, with many residents questioning how deeply the alleged misconduct penetrated local institutions — from law enforcement to civic groups and school organizations. Others argue the case exposes larger issues involving oversight failures, small-town power structures, and blurred personal-professional boundaries.
A National Spotlight on a Small Texas Town
What began as a bizarre local controversy involving a school volunteer and escort advertisements has now evolved into one of the most talked-about public corruption investigations in Texas this year.
As prosecutors continue building their case, more arrests and additional charges remain possible. Investigators have indicated the probe into organized criminal activity and alleged prostitution-related offenses is ongoing.
For residents of Godley, the scandal has transformed their once-quiet town into a national headline — raising difficult questions about accountability, institutional trust, and whether warning signs were ignored for far too long.
