In a chilling escalation of domestic turmoil that has gripped New York City, prominent fitness model and influencer Donald Zieben-Hood, 40, was indicted Wednesday on a slew of charges related to years of alleged intimate partner violence against his late husband, Jacob Zieben-Hood. While authorities continue to investigate Jacob’s brutal stabbing death as a homicide, no murder charges have yet been filed against Donald, who discovered the body and placed the frantic 911 call.

The nightmare unfolded in the early hours of August 1, 2025, when Donald dialed emergency services at approximately 4 a.m., reporting that he had just found Jacob, 34, slumped lifeless over the toilet in their shared Harlem apartment on West 145th Street. First responders arrived to a horrific scene: Jacob’s body bore multiple stab wounds to the back of his leg, a severe gash on his head, and cuts across his face. Blood spatter marred the furniture, walls, floors, and kitchen counters, painting a picture of a violent struggle.

Donald, known for his chiseled physique and social media empire boasting hundreds of thousands of followers, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of involvement. He has remained in custody at Rikers Island without bail since that day, his once-glamorous life now unraveling under the weight of scrutiny.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, led by Alvin Bragg, announced the indictment on October 1, detailing three separate incidents of alleged abuse spanning from February to late July 2025. Prosecutors painted a portrait of escalating terror: In February, Donald allegedly strangled Jacob during a heated argument, leaving him with swelling, pain, and redness around his neck—nearly causing him to lose consciousness. Jacob sought and obtained an order of protection, but it was violated repeatedly.

By June, the threats turned lethal when Donald reportedly held a knife to Jacob’s throat, vowing to harm him, prompting another protection order. Then, on July 31—just hours before the fatal discovery—Jacob made a desperate call to his father, breathlessly describing how Donald had broken into the apartment, beaten him savagely, and sliced him with a blade. He even texted graphic photos of his injuries: small cuts on his face and head, and a deep, bleeding gash on his leg.

The 16-count indictment includes two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of second-degree assault, two counts of aggravated criminal contempt, eight counts of first-degree criminal contempt, and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Appearing via video from jail during his arraignment, Donald pleaded not guilty to all charges. His next court date is set for October 15.

“As alleged, the defendant escalated his threatening conduct toward his husband in multiple acts of intimate-partner violence over the course of more than a year,” Bragg stated in a release. “No one deserves to live in fear of the person they love. If you or someone you know is experiencing intimate partner violence, please know that help is available.”

The couple, who met around 2015 and married shortly after, once projected an image of aspirational partnership on social media—jet-setting vacations, gym selfies, and motivational posts. But behind the filters, friends say Jacob became increasingly isolated. “He started pulling away from everyone after they got together,” one acquaintance told reporters. “Invites went unanswered, calls blocked. It was like he vanished into that relationship.”

Legal experts and former law enforcement officials have weighed in on the case’s complexities. In a recent analysis, correspondent Jesse Weber dissected the crime scene evidence alongside former FBI agent Bobby Chacon, highlighting the blood evidence as indicative of a “prolonged altercation” and questioning Donald’s account of “waking up” to the discovery. “The timeline doesn’t add up cleanly,” Chacon noted, pointing to Jacob’s final call to his father the night before. “This wasn’t a random act—it’s the culmination of a pattern.”

The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Jacob’s death a homicide, but autopsy results remain pending, delaying potential murder charges. Investigators have not named any other suspects, and sources close to the case suggest Donald remains the primary focus. As the probe deepens, advocates for domestic violence survivors are calling for swift justice.

“If this doesn’t lead to murder charges, it’s a failure of the system,” said one victim’s rights advocate. “Jacob’s story is a stark reminder: Abuse doesn’t stay hidden forever.”
