Twenty-four years ago, husband-and-wife team Roy Alan and Heather Alexander founded the Winter Park Playhouse with a simple but ambitious vision: create a professional musical theatre where audiences could escape everyday life through laughter, music, and unforgettable performances. What started in 2002 as a modest stage tucked behind a performing arts school has grown into one of Central Florida’s most beloved cultural treasures.
With last evening’s gala, that dream reached a breathtaking new milestone!
The Winter Park Playhouse officially celebrated the grand reopening of its beautifully transformed home following an extraordinary $8 million renovation funded through Orange County’s Tourist Development Tax program in partnership with the City of Winter Park. The gala welcomed supporters into a stunning new facility with cocktails, desserts, live music, a champagne toast, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, and a musical celebration created especially for this historic occasion.
For Roy and Heather, the evening represented far more than the unveiling of a renovated building. It was the realization of a vision they have nurtured for nearly a quarter century—one built through determination, artistic excellence, and an unwavering commitment to serving the Central Florida community.

Guests experienced a theater unlike any the Playhouse has ever called home. Expanded from 123 to 172 seats, the venue now features Broadway-style seating, a significantly larger stage, a welcoming new lobby, enhanced guest amenities, and an elegant cabaret performance space designed to host intimate concerts and special events throughout the year.
Every improvement was thoughtfully created to elevate the audience experience while preserving the warm, personal atmosphere that has made the Playhouse affectionately known by many patrons as “My Happy Place” and “The Forget Your Troubles Theatre.”
Yet the true magic of the Winter Park Playhouse has never been found solely in its walls. It lives in the standing ovations, the shared laughter, the timeless songs, and the remarkable connection between performers and audiences that Roy Alan and Heather Alexander have cultivated since opening night in 2002.
Now, with its state-of-the-art new home, the Playhouse is poised to enter its most exciting chapter yet.
The upcoming season promises an outstanding lineup of professional musicals, dazzling cabaret performances, beloved classics, and exciting new productions that will continue the theater’s tradition of delivering Broadway-quality entertainment in an intimate setting. Whether you’re a lifelong subscriber or someone who has never experienced live musical theatre, there’s never been a more exciting time to take your seat.
The reopening of the Winter Park Playhouse isn’t simply the unveiling of a renovated theater—it is the celebration of a community’s belief in the arts and a tribute to the vision of two artists whose dream has enriched countless lives.
As the curtain rises on this remarkable new era, one thing is certain: the best performances are still to come. The lights are brighter. The stage is bigger. The possibilities are endless.
And everyone is invited to be part of the next act. Don’t ignore this gem of entertainment. It’s so much better than we can possibly write about – YOU’VE GOT TO GO IN PERSON!
