To understand what is happening in a country or to gauge its position in world leadership, it is important to study its history. However, studying the country’s true history may no longer be sufficient. In order to gain a comprehensive understanding, it may be necessary to study a country’s social media as well.

In the past, one would search for interviews a country’s leaders had conducted with the National Review, 60 Minutes, Reason, The Nation, Harper’s, Washington Monthly, Bloomberg and Dissent.

Then of course there are the more standard reads which would start with Rolling Stone, People, followed by the usual sports and women’s fashion magazines. And we can’t forget the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the San Francisco Bee on the west coast and the Washington Post on the east.

WHAT EXACTLY IS SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media refers to web-based communication tools that enable people to interact with each other by sharing and consuming information. Social media sites and apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and others allow users to create personal accounts, share information, and interact with others online.

The term “social” refers to interacting with other people by sharing information with them and receiving information from them, while the term “media” refers to an instrument of communication, like the internet.

Social media is a broad term that can be used to describe almost any website on the internet today. Some people have a more restricted view of social media, often equating it to mean the same as social networking (a.k.a. Facebook, Snapchat, etc.), while others don’t consider blogs to fall under the social media category.

Caring about what “hip hop musicians” or “rapper’s” think politically is a lot of fun and entertaining. The practice began with President Obama when he was interviewed by GloZell Green.

Before interviewing Barack Obama, Green was best known for eating milk and cereal out of a bathtub which she does in this video with tremendous skill. Realizing that many of you would either not remember or perhaps had never seen the video, I offer the YouTube video itself. This took place in January of 2015.

Green interviewed Barack Obama as an outreach effort to YouTubers and it worked because unless you grew up in Chicago, you wouldn’t have known who Barack Obama actually was. And entertaining the audience has always proven a wonderful move. Here is Barack Obama’s version of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” And he sang quite well.

Before becoming a senator of Illinois, Barack Obama was a community organizer, civil rights attorney, and professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. He also served in the Illinois State Senate from 1997 to 2004, where he worked on a wide range of legislation, including health care, labor, law enforcement, campaign finance reform, welfare, and community reinvestment.

RAPPER’S ARE ENTERTAINERS – THEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN MORE IMPORTANCE THAN THAT

Being seen online being interviewed by and interacting with HipHop and Rappers worked very well for Barack Obama. Eric Adams, mayor of NYC, was thrilled when Joe Biden was endorsed by Cardi B because it created a great deal of good will for the mayor (since he too is a Democrat).

After publicly saying that NYC’s run out of money and that there will be no further funds for the homeless, Eric Adams is receiving a great deal of criticism. Many are badmouthing the NYC mayor.

Cardi B is upset that she ever endorsed Biden and is now taking back her endorsement!
And while it may be a great idea to reach out to the community by associating with hip hoppers and rappers when trying to obtain votes, “Society should not place so much importance on their views on politics. They are primarily musicians after all. Their opinions should entertain but should not be given so much weight.

Now Cardi B says she’ll never endorse a politician again and she shouldn’t. Running a city, the size of New York is an extremely important endeavor that should not be left up to or influenced by any entertainer of any genre but especially not a rapper that came up the ranks via a stripper pole.
