Martha Stewart and Tiger Woods both faced public and professional consequences that stemmed directly from their own actions. Yet the application of justice and public judgment is rarely consistent. Sean Combs was associated with high-profile sex parties; Jeffrey Epstein operated in a similar arena of facilitated sexual encounters. Epstein primarily served the preferences of wealthy white men of influence. Combs operated within the sports and entertainment worlds, often involving women from more disadvantaged backgrounds.
The settings and demographics differed, but the underlying dynamic of power, access, and exploitation shared clear parallels. In Stewart’s case, much of the intensity of the backlash appeared amplified by resentment of her wealth and success.
