Upon landing in Haiti’s Toussaint Louverture International Airport, two U.S. based commercial flights with passengers were shot at. One Spirit Airlines jet and one JetBlue jet found bullet holes on the aircraft.

Spirit Airlines Incident: A plane flying from Florida to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, was hit by bullets while trying to land. The plane had to change direction and land in the Dominican Republic instead. One flight attendant got minor injuries, but none of the passengers were hurt.

JetBlue Incident: A flight from Haiti to New York’s JFK airport seemed fine at first, but after the flight, a check revealed that the plane had been hit by a bullet, according to the New York Times.

The Cause: The US Embassy said these shootings were likely part of efforts by local gangs to stop people from traveling to or from Port-au-Prince. Gangs have been causing violence and blocking roads, ports, and airports in the area.

On the Spirit Airlines Plane: One passenger, Jean-David Desrouleaux, described hearing loud “clack, clack, clack” sounds as bullets hit the plane. “A few of us understood what was happening,” he told the Miami Herald. The plane was about a mile away from the airport when the bullets struck.

Needless to mention that mainstream media is making light of the matter. Their stories are short and broadcasted as nonconsequential. American Airlines has canceled their flights until they make a further announcement later this week.
