What can we do to lessen people’s fear of “differences”?

Why do prejudiced people judge anyone from a different ethnic, religious, racial, social, cultural, or sexual orientation than their own, as negative?

To understand “prejudice” we asked young people – youth aged 11 to 18 – to write a story about an experience they had with someone who doesn’t look or behave like them. They described how they handled the situation and the reasons why, the outcome of their actions or reactions and how that outcome made them feel. Then they illustrated their stories.

These stories stimulate philosophical dialogues about ignorance that generates fear that is at the root of most prejudices and “why” prejudice is just not right!
