Shannen Doherty, a beloved actress best known for her roles in “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.  She was 53 years old.

Born on April 12, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee, Doherty began her acting career at the tender age of 10. Her talent was recognized early on by Michael Landon, who cast her in his hit show “Little House on the Prairie” after her debut on the short-lived series “Father Murphy”. This exposure led to a succession of roles, including a three-year turn on the Wilford Brimley family drama “Our House” and a starring role in the 1989 high school dark comedy “Heathers”.

However, it was her role as Brenda Walsh in “Beverly Hills, 90210” that catapulted Doherty to stardom and linked her to the character for the rest of her life. Despite her departure from the show, Doherty continued to work in the industry, starring in Kevin Smith’s “Mallrats” and later rejoining former boss Aaron Spelling for “Charmed” in 1997.

Throughout the 2000s, Doherty’s work varied from reality shows and TV movies to an animated series where she voiced twins. Yet, all roads seemed to lead back to “90210.” In 2008, she reprised her role of Brenda for The CW’s short-lived spinoff. Eleven years later, she joined more members of the original series’ cast in Fox’s meta-revival, “BH90210,” and guest-starred on The CW’s “Riverdale” to help the series lay to rest Fred Andrews, the heroic character played by her late “90210” leading man, Luke Perry.

Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but she went into remission two years later. However, in February 2020, she shared that her cancer was no longer in remission and had advanced to stage 4. In June 2023, she revealed that her cancer had spread to her brain.

Shannen Doherty was not just an actress but a fighter. Her courage and resilience in the face of adversity were an inspiration to many. She will be remembered for her talent, her spirit, and the joy she brought to her fans around the world. Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.
