COYOTE ATTACKS IN FLORIDA

BY SNN.BZ STAFF
WINTER PARK, FL – DAILY
Coyotes have lived in Florida for thousands of years and we have our fair share in Winter Park, Florida. We just stay out of their way and our neighbors that own dogs make sure to carry mace or bear spray when they walk their dogs. The coyotes have been here for far long before we arrived and began building homes in Florida.
Coyotes have begun attacking people in Florida. It doesn’t happen frequently but it does happen from time to time. It’s “that time” again…

MIRAMAR, FL – FIVE DAYS AGO
Keep in mind that most coyote attacks happen while we are sleeping so we don’t hear small animals being attacked. The majority of coyote attacks go unreported.
Coyote killing ducks in family’s backyard in Miramar, Florida. Duck attack caught on backyard cameras. Family had no idea they attacked in groups. Most literature and pamphlets mentioned that coyote’s were “loners.”
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – TWO WEEKS AGO
Coyotes injured Chris Mack’s face, arms and his hands. The attack happened on Leatherwood Drive in the Country Creek neighborhood of Altamonte Springs, in Seminole County, Florida.
Chris Mack and his big service dog (Bohdi the Boxer) were attacked by a pack of coyotes hurting Chris’s hand, arms, and face.
During the attack, Chris was really worried because Bohdi the Boxer ran away but came back to him later. After the attack, Chris called for an ambulance, and he was taken to a hospital where doctors made sure he got a rabies shot, just in case.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission heard about what happened and is looking into it. They also reminded people to report any encounters with wild animals. Even though coyotes are usually shy and try to stay away from people, there have been more sightings and problems with them in Florida recently.
One neighbor, Daniel Vhets, gave some advice to others in the area: “Be careful and watch your kids, because coyotes could take them away without anyone noticing.”
It’s a good reminder to be aware of our surroundings and stay safe, especially when wild animals are around.
