Tupac was born in Harlem to a single mother who moved her family around a lot as she struggled to support them. His mother, Afeni Shakur, was a fiery political activist and a prominent member of the Black Panther Party.
Unfortunately, Afeni’s life spiraled downwards after Tupac’s birth. She fell into a series of bad relationships and moved her family around numerous times. By the early 1980s, she had become addicted to crack cocaine.

Other family members who were involved in the Black Panthers’ Black Liberation Army were convicted of serious crimes and imprisoned, including Shakur’s stepfather, Mutulu Shakur.

After nearly three decades, an arrest has been made in connection with Tupac Shakur’s murder. Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested on suspicion of murder early Friday morning.
