Casey and Caylee Anthony

BY SNN.BZ STAFF

Casey Anthony, once at the center of a highly publicized trial (accused of killing her toddler daughter Caylee), has reemerged on TikTok as a legal advocate, researcher, and supporter of causes like women’s rights and the LGBTQ community.

This follows the tragic disappearance of her daughter, Caylee, reported missing on July 15, 2008, with remains found on December 11, 2008, and her acquittal in July 2011.

This video above shares the story “as seen on tv.” Another very interesting back story that most of the public is unaware of is that the prosecutor who was keen on locking Casey Anthony up for life, was himself in the middle of an embroilment.

The prosecutor in the Casey Anthony trial who was revealed to have edited profiles on a singles dating site during the trial was Jeff Ashton.

Jeff Ashton was a prominent figure in the Casey Anthony case, serving as one of the lead prosecutors. In 2015, it came to light that he had an account on Ashley Madison, a dating site for married individuals seeking affairs, when the site suffered a major data breach.

The breach exposed the names of millions of users, including Ashton’s. He admitted to using his personal credit card to sign up for the site and confirmed that he accessed it, sometimes from his office, though he used his personal computer and public WiFi.

People enjoy saying that this scandal emerged years after the Casey Anthony trial concluded in 2011, but it significantly impacted Ashton’s public image. Having covered the trial, I can say with certainty that the matter was discussed amongst media members. In some dating sites he listed himself as a heterosexual man and in others he listed himself as bisexual. At the time of the breach, Ashton was the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Florida, a position he had been elected to in 2012 following his role in the high-profile trial. Those that covered this trial often discuss if a deal wasn’t made. After all, she was accused of murder yet… “she walked.”

Ashton was caught when the IP trace from his cell phone was found to have coursed through the court building’s Internet server directly to the dating sites. He was lying when he says in this interview that he never accessed the sites while he was at work. That was not true. Direct communication from his cell phone’s search was found during the hours that he was working as well as while he was prosecuting Casey Anthony.
