According to the complaint, the events began on January 29, 2025, when Loveland Police received a report of a fire near a Cyber Truck at the Tesla dealership. Investigators at the scene discovered an incendiary device, commonly referred to as a “Molotov cocktail,” next to the vehicle. This marked the beginning of a string of incidents that prompted further investigations.

On February 2, 2025, Loveland Police received another report, this time of graffiti on the Tesla dealership’s sign. The graffiti, written in black spray paint, read the word “NAZI.”

Then, on February 7, 2025, the dealership was again targeted. Police received a report of graffiti and possible arson at the location. Upon investigation, officers found several broken bottles that appeared consistent with incendiary devices, suggesting the possibility of another Molotov cocktail attempt.

The incidents continued, with a fourth occurrence on February 11, 2025. On this date, a security guard at the dealership encountered an individual who was painting graffiti, which included an expletive, on the front windows of the building.

A breakthrough in the investigation came on February 24, 2025, when Loveland Police confronted Nelson at the dealership. In his car, authorities discovered a container of gasoline along with a box containing bottles and wick material, similar to the items recovered at the scenes of prior incidents.

Nelson made an initial appearance in front of Magistrate Judge N. Reid Neureiter. He faces charges related to malicious destruction of property, stemming from the multiple acts of vandalism and potential arson targeting the Tesla dealership.

In response to the growing number of incidents targeting Tesla locations, former President Donald Trump issued a statement yesterday emphasizing that anyone caught vandalizing Tesla cars or property would face severe legal consequences. He stated that such individuals will be charged to the full extent of the law and will face the longest possible sentences for their actions.

The investigation is being handled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Denver Field Office, and the Loveland Police Department. The prosecution of the case is being overseen by the Violent Crime and Immigration Enforcement Section of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.
