On March 9, 2024, Basel Bassel Ebbadi, originally from Lebanon crossed into the U.S. illegally at the U.S. southern border near El Paso, Texas, and was apprehended by border patrol agents.
He admitted that he was a member of Hezbollah, was trained by their organization and that he wanted to make his way to New York City to build a bomb (that statement actually appears in his official United States Border Patrol Document). It is not meant to be salacious – it is factual.
In Ebbadi’s next interview, he told TTRT Team Members that he was a member of Hezbollah, had trained with them for 7 years and worked as a weapons guard for Hezbollah an additional 4 years.
TTRT is an acronym that stands for Tactical Terrorism Response Team. It is one of several secretive units that are part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and are trained to conduct counterterrorism interrogations.
The TTRT and CBP operate at various ports of entry and Border Patrol sectors across the United States borders. Initially focused on counterterrorism, the program has now expanded to include other areas such as counter-intelligence, transnational organized crime, and biological threats.
Between 2017 and 2019, these teams detained and interrogated over 600,000 travelers, including both U.S. citizens and foreign visitors.
On further questioning, Ebbadi said that his training was focused on jihad (the fight against the enemies of Islam) and “killing people that were not Muslim.”
