The Ramblin’ River Retreat is the perfect spot for writing music or books, creative thinking or simply hosting a family retreat. Archival artwork and photos from John’s career, various music history books, special DVD collection of John’s projects (from Steve Martin specials, 1977 Russia’s Dirt Band tour, Will the Circle Be Unbroken history, to archival video of NGDB and others from his multi-faceted career), highlight this music themed retreat. John often uses the Lodge for rehearsals, writing and music parties with fans, family and guests.

Bordered by Manatee River’s Mill Creek, this river lodge’s tranquil setting, nestled on four wilderness-like acres, has the look of “old Florida” – yet only 5 minutes away from conveniences (food, restaurants, drug stores, gas stations) and I-75.

This week’s performance in Largo, Florida: John Cable on guitar (formerly with the NGDB), Les Thompson on bass (formerly with the NGDB), John McEuen on banjo (founding member of the NGDB), Marilyn McEuen vocals and Matt Cartsonis, guitar and mandolin

The property is close to the Sarasota and Tampa airports and only 25-30 minutes to Sarasota’s many world class beaches (including Siesta Key Beach ranked number 1 on Trip Advisor) and many attractions. The lodge is truly a “Florida Walden’s Pond”, peaceful and surrounded by various bird species and fish with the frequent Manatee and occasional calves!

Ramblin’ River Retreat has a bright and open layout with the river view as the backdrop. The living area is warm and inviting and features comfortable furnishings and fireplace. The wrap around deck is perfect for morning coffee and enjoying nature at its finest. Rounding out the spacious downstairs is the charming country kitchen and dining area. The master bedroom with a king bed has a private bath with walk-in shower that compliments this impressive suite. Additional guests will adore the second and third bedrooms – one with twin beds, one with queen – and shared bath with walk in shower – and two sinks.

Complimentary hi-speed FiOS wi-fi and cable for all bedroom and living room televisions are welcome conveniences, as are the washer and dryer. Plenty of parking, often a scarce commodity, allows for additional vehicles and trailer – even for a motor home with boat trailer – on the secluded site.

Feel free to launch your boat at the private on-site boat ramp (a rare amenity), or jump in one of the kayaks or canoes, to explore and fish the many branches of the Manatee River. You will want to return year after year to the warm breezes in your own private waterfront wilderness sanctuary. A haven to play music, write stories and songs, read, relax – it’s now open and available. Enjoy sunshine, siestas, sunsets.

Guest Reviews…

February 2018 – Very clean, roomy and quiet. Unique property with interesting musical memorabilia.

January 2018 – “We recently returned from enjoying a month in this lovely home and setting. This was our first visit and it was a most memorable one. We have never felt so comfortable in another getaway home as we experienced at the R.R.R. You will enjoy the many comforts of home (i.e.; beautiful kitchen, living room & dining area, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms). We are fortunate to live surrounded by trees, water, birds and wildlife (plus winter cold and snow!) — so it was a joy to be surrounded by such beauty and nature at the R.R.R. (minus the cold and snow!!). The R.R.R. sits on a peaceful scenic river (if you are lucky, you might see a manatee swim by). We spent many hours on the deck reading and enjoying the view and the sounds of the river. We were far enough out of the city to enjoy the dark skies and evening stars but close enough to the city to find all we needed at grocery stores, shopping malls, restaurants, movie theaters, etc. If you are a beach lover, you are able to visit most of the beaches within 30 minutes. Thanks again Marilyn and John for creating this awesome retreat for us to enjoy!”

December 2017 – We arrived on 12/24 and drove down a long lane to a very private home. There were poinsettias at the entry gate, on the front porch and Christmas decorations in the house. That was SO appreciated! There are a lot of little details in this house that make it extra special! Comfortable beds, thick towels and little shampoo/conditioner bottles in the showers. You have a beautiful view outside every window. There is fishing/canoeing/kayacking available right out your back door. The wrap around porch is wonderful for morning coffee and there are lights outside to enjoy the evening. John McCuen/Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has placed such fun memorabilia around the house which gives it that extra charm. It’s a short drive to restaurants/shopping/beaches/airports etc. We would absolutely stay here again!

November 2017 – The property was everything we’d hoped for and more. Clean, spacious and beautifully decorated with all the comforts of home. The location was spectacular with views of the river, yet it was only about 10 min to the nearest Publix and CVS. The property manager responded quickly to our requests. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this beautiful lodge to anyone wanting a magical river experience with the comforts of a 5 star hotel.

October 2017 – We were absolutely amazed!  The house is not just a house – it’s a gorgeous lodge with a grand fireplace.  The front room windows run from floor to ceiling offering a breathtaking view overlooking a natural vibrant river.

We often heard the lullaby of an owl in the evening as full grown manatee with their calves drifted down the river as if we were in an enchanted animal retreat.

You can fish right off the land and hook a Catfish, Snook or Mullett to name a few fish living in that river.  Some fish jump out of the water in the air as they snap at an occasional dragon fly. And a musical chorus of tropical birds serenade you from morning until night.

The lodge is decorated with John McEuen Americana and Bluegrass memorabilia.

We enjoyed the down-home country sound and feel of truly authentic music (many pieces that we’d actually never heard before from his new album called MADE IN BROOKLYN) while enjoying all the modern day creature comforts such as a washer and dryer, an excellent air-conditioning system along with a large cozy fireplace and five star hotel quality baths.

By the time we went for an evening walk we realized that the house sits on a 4.5 acre private property and that when we rented this home, that we would be renting and enjoying it all by ourselves. We couldn’t walk the entire property as it seemed to go on forever.  No other guests stayed in the house with us. It was very impressive to have the entire estate to ourselves alone.

The rental of the house on this over-sized property is completely private for you and your family as it was for ours.

Absolutely magical.
