XRP surged 10% on March 19, 2025, after Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse announced that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is ending its appeal in a lawsuit against Ripple Labs. The legal fight, which started in 2020 over claims Ripple raised $1.3 billion selling XRP as an unregistered security, is finally over. A 2023 ruling said XRP wasn’t a security for retail sales, and now the SEC has backed off its challenge.
Garlinghouse called it a “resounding victory” for Ripple and crypto, boosting XRP prices and investor hype. The case’s end clears a major hurdle for Ripple, which focuses on cross-border payments using the XRP Ledger. With the SEC pausing other crypto cases and Ripple’s recent political moves—like a $5 million XRP donation to Trump’s inauguration—XRP could see a big comeback. The “XRP Army” is thrilled, and the win might shake up U.S. crypto rules.
